Berikut beberapa istilah – istilah yang sering digunakan oleh para mancing mania dalam kehidupan mancingnya sehari – hari. TACKLE, Peralatan mancing. FISHING KNOT, Simpul – simpul yang lazim digunakan untuk mancing. HOOK, Mata kail ukuran dan bentuknya bermacam-macam. SPOOL , tempat untuk mengulungan senar yang terdapat di reel ataupun manual (hand line). HOOK UP atau STRIKE, Kail menancap di mulut ikan atau umpan disambar ikan. FISHING ROD atau JORAN, adalah alat untuk memancing berbentuk seperti anthena dan bermacam – macam jenisnya. LINE, berupa senar monoline / monofilamen (senar
berserat tunggal) atau PE (poly Elester) / Braided / multifilament
(berserat banyak). LBS = POUND, satuan pound berasal dari bahasa latin
“pendere” yang artinya menimbang , bahasa latinnya adalah “libra” yang
berarti timbangan atau keseimbangan. Dipakai oleh bangsa romawi sebagai
satuan massa yang sama dengan pound, kadang2 kita menyebutnya libs,
sebetulnya kepanjangan dari lbs adalah international avoirdupois pound
ini digunakan oleh inggris pada undang undang “Weights and Measures Act”
pada tahun 1963. pound (lbs) dan kilogram dijadikan satuan ukuran
massa. 1 pound/Lbs = 0,45359 kilogram LEADER, pada dasarnya adalah Line yang menghubungkan
line utama kita dengan umpan. Jadi leader posisinya selalu paling dekat
dengan umpan.Bagian line kita yang terletak paling ujung selalu
mendapat tugas paling berat, karena kemungkinan bagian ini akan kena
gigit, bergesekan dengan badan/sirip ikan, bergesekkan dengan lunas
kapal, bergesekkan dengan karang, dll. Oleh karena itu digunakanlah
leader/tali pandu. Leader biasanya berkekuatan lebih besar dari line
utama karena tugasnya yang lebih berat. SWIVEL atau KILI-KILI, penyambung yang bisa berputar ukuran dan bentuknya bentuknya bermacam macam. REEL, alat penggulung senar bisa berbentuk spinning, spincaster, baitcaster, overhead / trolling, dan lain – lain. BAITCASTER, perangkat memancing (reel) khusus untuk
casting, selain kuat untuk fight dengan ikan, perputaran dalam
menggulung senar menyesuaikan gerakan umpan yg bentuk ikan kecil
sehingga seolah-olah seperti ikan hidup berenang. REEL SPINNING, reel yg lazim digunakan untuk mancing dasaran, jigging, popping dan landbase. LIVE BAIT, umpan hidup biasanya udang, kodok ataupun sotong yg masih hidup. HAND LINE, memancing tanpa menggunakan joran dan reel alias langsung pake tangan. Namun tetap pake line dan mata pancing. BOTTOM FISHING / MANCING DASARAN, Mengapa disebut
“Mancing Dasaran”, karena apa yang dilakukan adalah menempatkan kail
yang berisi umpan di dasar laut (atau sedikit diatasnya agar tidak
tersangkut karang) dengan harapan bahwa ikan ikan yang berada di dasar
laut memakan umpan tersebut. Ini adalah teknik mancing paling umum dan
paling popular dikalangan pemancing. LANDBASE, mancing dari pinggir / tepi danau, laut. TROLLING, Teknik memancing yang disebut ”trolling”
ini harus menggunakan reel khusus (Open Reel) yang cukup kuat dan joran
khusus yang umumnya hanya terdiri dari 1 batang dan harus ditarik kapal
dengan kecepatan 5-7 knot. Trolling biasanya menggunakan umpan buatan
yang dibuat dari fiber glass, kayu atau plastik. Umpan palsu yang paling
populer adalah yang disebut Rapala untuk memancing ikan ikan seperti
Tenggiri dan Wahoo. Ada jenis umpan palsu lain yang disebut Konahead
yang berbentuk seperti cumi tapi berwarna menyolok untuk mancing ikan
ikan sejenis Marlin, Layaran dan Lemadang. Teknik Teknik Memancing
CASTING,
Caranya adalah umpan/lure dilempar sejauh
mungkin, kemudian reel digulung dengan cepat. Hal ini harus dilakukan
terus menerus sampai ikan menyambar atau sampai pemancing merasa lelah
dan menyerah. Oleh karena itu cara mancing seperti ini termasuk Popping
dan Jigging dikategorikan sebagai Sportfishing, casting biasanya
dilakukan dari pinggiran laut, seperti dermaga, batuan, pantai, bahkan
diatas kapal yang sedang berhenti / jalan dengan pelan. Joran yang
digunakan adalah joran khusus yang bersifat lentur (tidak kaku) dan
panjangnya antara 150 sampai 172 cm cm karena berbeda dengan Popping,
lontaran umpan biasanya tidak perlu terlalu jauh (antara 20 sampai 30
m). Reel yang digunakan bisa spinning bisa juga reel khusus
(baitcasting). Umpan yang digunakan biasanya umpan tiruan (lure) yang
berbentuk ikan ikanan, serangga atau binatang laut lain dengan berat
sekitar 7 sampai 20 gram. SURF CASTING atau PASIRAN,
Teknik
mancing ini dilakukan dari pantai dengan menggunakan joran yang
panjangnya kira-kira 4m dan biasanya terdiri dari 3 pieces (potong) yang
harus disambung jadi satu. Jorannya hampir seperti joran spinning atau
popping biasa hanya jauh lebih panjang. Pemancing juga harus menggunakan
reel yang berukuran cukup besar (biasanya model spinning kelas 4000
keatas). Oleh teman-teman di daerah Yogya teknik mancing ini disebut
PASIRAN.ROCK CASTING,
Teknik mancing ini hampir sama dengan
teknik Surf Casting dan menggunakan peralatan yang hampir sama tetapi
dilakukan dari atas batu karang (rock) atau pinggir laut yang curam.
POPPING, Teknik Popping pada dasarnya termasuk dalam
kelompok Casting. Tetapi teknik Popping menggunakan joran (rod) yang
cukup panjang, antara 180 sampai 210 cm dan terdiri dari 2 pieces yang
disambung. Teknik popping khusus menggunakan ”lure” (umpan buatan) yang
disebut Popper yang biasanya berukuran besar dengan berat antara 80
sampai 100 gram. Umpan buatan yang dipakai terdiri dari 2 jenis. Yang
pertama disebut ”Chugger” yang kepalanya rata dan memiliki cekukan
seperti mangkok. Chugger ini bila disentak sewaktu mengapung akan
menimbulkan bunyi ”pop, pop, pop” karena kepalanya menabrak air laut.
Itulah sebabnya ia disebut ”popper”. Jenis yang satu lagi disebut
”Pencil” karena kepalanya ”tajam” dan pensil ini tidak disentak sentak
tetapi hanya ditarik terus.
JIGGING, jigging sebagai salah satu teknik mancing
bukanlah sesuatu teknik yang baru muncul. Nelayan dari beberapa negara
sejak ribuan tahun lalu telah mencoba ”menipu” ikan dengan menggunakan
umpan palsu yang dibuat dari timah atau logam lain berbentuk ikan kecil
(metal jig lure) yang dicemplungkan ke dasar laut lalu kemudian ditarik
dengan cepat keatas. FLY FISHING, Ini adalah salah satu teknik unik
mancing dikembangkan oleh seorang bangsawan dari Inggris.Namun ada yg
menyebutkan bahwa fly fishing itu sudah ada sejak abad ke 2 masehi. pada
jaman Romawi kuno Claudius Aelinus, yang menyatakan memancing dengan
menggunakan artificial fly. Secara umum fly fishing adalah seni
memancing dengan menggunakan artificial bait berbentuk fly (serangga).
Artificial flies ini bisa terbuat dari tying hair, fur, feathers, atau
material lainnya baik yang natural ataupun synthetic. Perangkat
memancingnyapun menggunakan joran khusus fly dan fly line khusus terbuat
dari line yang di coated plastik. Fly fishing dapat dimainkan di
freshwater maupun saltwater. CATCH & RELEASE, memancing ikan kemudian hasil
pancingan dilepaskan, sebelum dilepaskan kembali biasanya angler
mangambil foto sebagai bukti angler telah berhasil memancing ikan
tersebut. Istilah ini biasanya digunakan pada jenis-jenis ikan billfish,
GT walaupun tidak tertutup kemungkinan digunkan untuk jenis ikan lain.
Hal ini dilakukan untuk melindungi jenis-jenis ikan tertentu dari
kemusnahan selain itu untuk pelestarian ikan dan melatih pemancing untuk
tidak melakukkan over fishing. coba lihat tayangan mancing mania di
Trans 7 kadang catch and release. SPOT, titik lokasi dimana target ikan terlihat atau diperkirakan ada. GALATAMA, istilah Galatama diambil dari istilah liga
sepakbola Indonesia jaman dulu yang intinya adalah lomba yang
memperebutkan juara peringkat. Jadi mancing Galatama adalah mancing
dengan target menjadi Juara dalam pertandingan mancing. Biasanya
memperebutkan Juara induk terberat 1, Juara induk terberat 2, Juara
induk terberat 3, dan Juara Prestasi (Total tangkapan terbanyak). LURE, umpan buatan berbentuk mainan ikan-ikanan
biasanya digunakan dalam teknik Casting, Popping, Jigging, Trolling, dan
Fly fishing. Jenis Lure: popper, konahead, minnow, chugger, jerk-bait,
stick-bait, pencil, metal jig, spoon, spinner, softplastic, worm, flies,
buggy, frogy dan lain -lain.
KONAHEAD, umpan tiruan menyerupai cumi-cumi,
biasanya dipakai untuk memancing dengan cara menonda (trolling) untuk
jenis ikan marlin atau layaran.
TEGEG, joran panjang dan ramping tanpa menggunakan reel. Tegeg ada yg 1 piece atau yang berbentuk antena.
JIGHEAD, mata kail yang di lengkapi bandul timah di ujung kepalanya. Mata kail ini khusus untuk lure softplastik dan worm.
Froggy, Umpan ini menyerupai Kodok sungguhan, biasanya digunakan untuk Casting, umpan ini sangat manjur untuk memancing ikan toman
MANCING HARIAN, mancing satu harian penuh dengan membayar uang sewa kolam. MANCING KILOAN, mancing dengan sistem memancing
terlebih dahulu lalu menimbang perolehan ikan yg terpancing dan membayar
sebesar apa yg diperoleh berdasarkan satuan KILOGRAM kemudian ikan di
bawa pulang
